As the pain gets worse, working becomes harder and harder. What may be bringing these headaches about? It can have to do with improper posture while sitting at one’s desk, leading to a tension headache. What will help?

Suggestions to Improve Posture While Working at a Desk

  • Make sure the monitor is at eye level
  • Keep feet flat on the floor
  • When typing, keep the elbows and wrists level with the floor
  • Avoid hunching – keep the shoulders back
  • Sit up straight against the back of the chair
  • Keep the chair height so that the knees are just a bit lower than the hips

This may help to lessen the number of tension headaches one suffers, but unless the root cause is addressed, they may continue to occur. Keeping the spine healthy and properly in alignment can aid in relieving headaches. How is this accomplished?

Relieving Tension Headaches Naturally

The spine was designed to be the protector of the delicate spinal cord as it works to send signals to and from the brain and body keeping things functioning at their optimum.  The atlas is the top bone of the spine and is susceptible to misalignment due to its location, shape, and mobility. If a misalignment occurs in this bone, the brainstem is put under stress, causing signals to become distorted. This may be the root cause of tension headaches as muscles react to the misalignment by becoming tight.

Here at The Head and Spine Pain Center, we use a method called EPIC that is a precise and gentle technique relying on specific measurements and sound waves to help realign the atlas bone. It is completely safe and does not require us to pop or twist the neck. When the head is properly aligned over the body, patients report not only seeing their headaches improve, but their overall health gets better as well.
